Nature Journaling for the Curious (KISC)(Kauai)

May 21 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm HST

Event organized by Kaua’i Invasive Species Committee

Ever wonder how a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly? Ever lie on your back and watch clouds float overhead? Count the number of pistils and stamen on an ʻōhiʻa lehua? Wonder how the heck Hawaiʻi hosts so many plants and animals found nowhere else in the world? This is the kind of curiosity that lends itself to a regular nature journaling practice.

John Muir Laws says, “A nature journal is a lens that focuses our attention and crystalizes our observations, thoughts, and experiences.” And we do it on the page of a journal using words, pictures, and numbers—no experience necessary. Nature journaling is not about art but about letting your curiosity get the best of you!

Join Kim Rogers, outreach specialist with Kaua’i Invasive Species Committee, as she provides an introduction to nature journaling geared for non-scientists, non-artists and/or non-writers. Feel free to bring paper and a pencil to participate in a short nature journaling exercise. Or just come and learn more about this thing called nature journaling.

In her capacity at KISC, Kim directs her energies toward helping save the stateʻs endemic tree–‘ōhiʻa–from the threat known as Rapid ‘Ōhiʻa Death. Kim holds a Nature Journaling Educator Certificate from the Wild Wonder Foundation.

Registration is required. Call Keokiʻs Paradise at 808-742-7534 to save your spot.
