Nature Journaling and Handmade Paper Collaboration

Join us for our first workshop series collaboration between artist and papermaker Allison Roscoe and artist and Nature Journaling enthusiast Kate Righter.

Session 1: Introduction to Papermaking Sat Jul 12, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm    Learn to create unique sheets of (Western-style) paper with moulds and deckles and a variety of fibers pulped in a Hollander beater.  Be prepared to get wet, have fun and make sheets of paper that can be used in this series to make a simple nature journaling book. Note: Introduction to papermaking is limited to 6 participants. 

Session 2: Nature Journaling on Handmade Paper Sat Jul 19, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm 
Bring your handmade paper from 7/12 OR any stock of handmade or otherwise special paper you’ve been saving away for this opportunity!  Practice paper will also be provided to experiment on. Finished pages will be used to make a simple book on 7/26.Spend the morning connecting with native Hawaiian plants at Mānoa Heritage Center through the creative practice of nature journaling. Note: Nature Journaling is limited to 20 participants.

Session 3: Simple Bookmaking Sat Jul 26, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Bring your journal pages from 7/19 to learn a simple Japanese stab book binding technique.  Create your very own bound nature journal!
3-Session series: $115
2-Session series (if you have already taken Intro to Papermaking): $75
The 3-session series is limited to 10 participants.
